2019 Autism Scholarship
Black Wynn, PLLC is proud to announce that it will once again be offering a tuition scholarship for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD or autism). The scholarship is designed to assist those individuals in furthering their education, and to provide additional impetus for those who have been diagnosed with ASD to continue their studies. The scholarships will be for tuition at an educational institution (trade school, junior college or college) chosen by the applicant.

ASD, as the name implies, includes all autism disorders, including those previously designated as either separate disorders or subcategories of autism. Those with ASD may have difficulties in various areas, including social interaction, attention issues, and others. Some of these difficulties have an impact on the education of those with ASD. The number of people affected by ASD is greater than many may think. Last year, almost 1 in every 59 children in the United States was diagnosed with ASD. This scholarship is offered to provide encouragement to those with ASD to further their education.

Scholarship Description

The scholarship is for $1,000, to be utilized to defray a portion of the tuition cost at a junior college, college or trade school. We will issue a check directly to the school picked by the winning applicant.

Eligibility

All those United States citizens who have ASD (DSM-5) are eligible for the scholarship. Eligibility is not dependent upon current school attendance or enrollment. The winning applicant will have one year after the award is announced to use the $1,000 scholarship fund. We may also request proof of your ASD diagnosis.

Deadline

The application must be completed on or before February 24, 2020.

The Application

The application consists of the online form set forth below, a brief statement (no more than 135 words) outlining your educational plans, and at your option, an essay of 700 words or less describing how ASD has impacted your education over the years.

Selection and Announcement of the Winning Scholarship Applicant

The name of the winner of the scholarship will be announced by our firm on or before July 3, 2020. That decision shall be at the sole discretion of Black Wynn, PLLC. The winning applicant will receive a confirmation of the award by email.
